THE HOLY SPIRIT, MY MESSENGER?

 

There are two instances in the Bible, the dove was sent out on a mission. One instance occurred in the Old Testament when Noah sent out the dove to investigate if the flood water has dried up on the earth. 

" Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. But the dove could find nowhere to perch because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark" Gen. 8:8-9

 The other was when the Holy Spirit in form of a dove came on our Lord Jesus during baptism.

"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matt. 3:16-17

There are two postures the Believer can take in relating to the Almighty and especially the sweet person of the Holy Spirit. 

The Holy Spirit can either be the Adonai in the life of such beleiver-in which case, the Holy Spirit is Lord and master to that believer, or the Holy Spirit can be assigned the position of a messenger, in which case, the Holy Spirit is only entreated and consulted when there is a task, an assignment, a project that needs his giftings, wisdom and power and in such case 

He is neither the initiator of such projects nor consulted to know if the assigment is His plan.

Two different warriors were anointed with the Holy Spirit for their assignments. One will never go to war without consulting the Almighty, the other lived by his own leading and discretion. Samson, though an anointed warrior died without honour, David died with the throne of our Lord Jesus named after him

 

Our Lord Jesus said “there are many widows in Israel yet God led Elijah only to the widow of Zarepeth, also, there were many lame persons at the pool of Bethsaida (we have had instances whereby Christ healed all who were brought to His meeting sick but at this instance, He only healed one man at this pool.) 

Accuracy and efficiency is achievable in ministry when we honour the person and the office of the gentle Spirit of Christ within the Believer.

The Era of the Apostles was not left out; for the sole leadership of the Holy Spirit was acknowledged and respected by the Apostles. 

Our Lord Jesus started this trend in Acts 1:2-8 by saying’tarry in Jerusalem until the Spirit be poured on you.

The Holy was in charge of the early church and all Christ' disciples were building for Christ and in Christ- It was in Christ and all for Christ.

Apostle Peter shifted the attention of Ananias and Sapphira from himself and showed them, the Holy Spirit was the head of the Church. He told them 

“ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? 

What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” Acts 5:3-4

In summary, Peter was saying, we are not the head of the Church, the Holy Spirit is the Head of the Church.

Although Peter and John were the human representative of the Church at that time, the Holy Spirit was the ' Oga at the Top for everything in their lives.

Philip was instructed by the Holy Spirit where the next kingdom harvest was located. 

"The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Acts 8:29

Waiting on the Holy Sprit makes your vision easier and victory certain. He is omniscient and omnipotent, therefore the all knowing SPIRIT knows the what, where and how of your divine vision.

 He has the specifics of your calling and is even the ONE who distributes spiritual gifts by His will. 

The Holy Spirit begotten the disciples at the New Birth. 

He anointed them and gave them gifts for their divine assignment: 

He led them to all truths. He revealed the hidden mysterious of the Father to them,: 

He was the greater one inside of them than the enemy in the World .

Therefore, In the life of any Believer, the Holy Spirit is the Alpha and Omega, the A-Z in our lives.

Christ said "l have come to fulfill the volumes written about me". The Holy Spirit is the one who reveals to the Believers the plans and purposes of God for such. He wrote the volumes concerning our Lives and should be the sole executor.

Certainly, the Holy Spirit in our spirit cannot be kept mute and only engaged when His gifts and anointing are needed and then after use, He is again kept mute until the next use.

The Holy Spirit came to the Church in Antioch and said ‘separate unto me, not unto a man, Paul and Barnabas for the work I ordained for them.

"While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2-3

The very important question for every believer is “IS THE HOLY SPIRIT YOUR ADONAI (MASTER AND LORD) or do you use Him as your errand Boy.?
